Week 3!!

Tomorrow begins Week 3 - your last week of field placement.  From all accounts, it looks like this experience has been a positive one for all of you, and provided an opportunity for you to consolidate your skills and learn new ones.

I plan to visit the law firms this week.  The tentative itinerary is as follows:

  • Monday - Waterloo
  • Tuesday - Guelph and Elora
  • Wednesday - Cambridge
  • Thursday - Kitchener
Please ensure that you have an Exit Interview scheduled this week so that you and your supervisor can review and sign off on the evaluation which is to be received by me on Friday, April 28, 2017.

Please also review the blog criteria to ensure that you post and comment accordingly.

See you this week.

WordPerfect Common Keyboard Shortcuts

For those students using WordPerfect, there are many tutorials online as well as informative websites such as this link below.  After three weeks using WordPerfect, would you please let us know if you prefer WP to Word!  From my experience, legal assistants who started with WP and computers still love it, especially the reveal codes!

Happy Easter!  Enjoy the three (or four) day break.

Happy March!

I hope all of you are enjoying Student Success Week and have done something out of the ordinary as well as finding time to rest and relax.  It's hard to believe there are only seven more weeks of classes and then you're out on field placement!

I have had inquiries from firms who have postings on the Job Posting board, wondering if students are still seeking placement.

Would you therefore, please indicate on your blogs what progress you have been making in finalizing a placement.  Please indicate the firms you have applied to, the interviews you have had, and whether or not you are still looking for a position.  I am happy to assist you in the search.

Thank you to everyone who has completed both Stage 2 and the Safety In the Workplace online course as the deadline has passed.

Now it's time to finalize documentation for placement, and prepare yourself for a most amazing experience!

Happy February 1st!

My goodness, the month of January has certainly flown by quickly.  Thank you to all students who have submitted cover letters and resumes.  I hope that you are pleased with the suggestions for revisions, and are ready to send the approved final versions out to prospective firms for your three week unpaid placement.

Just a reminder to continue blogging so that we can all keep track of each other's progress, especially me!  If you have any concerns about finding a placement, please let me know.  Please read and comment on your classmates' posts.  You will note links to their blogs on my home page. This is your opportunity to be creative (as noted from everyone's different backgrounds and colour choice), and to share your thoughts and insights.

Thank you for posting such insightful reasons and guidelines for blogging on e-Conestoga.

Keep up the good work.

Welcome to CDEV2015_W17 Blogging

January 2017

Welcome to the blogging site for CDEV2015!

If you are reading this welcome note, then you have completed the blogging activities on eConestoga and are ready to begin blogging!

We are using this site to create personal blogs which will provide a venue for all of us to stay in touch and up to date with each other throughout this semester. More importantly, it provides a venue for you to reflect on your learning experience.

Create Your Blog

Each one of you must create your own blogging site.  The blogs are "public" and therefore anyone might read your blog, although I don't believe that should be of great concern. Please be sure that your blog is named as follows:  FirstinitialLastnameCDEV2015

Example: JBradleyCDEV2015

There are lots of "how to" instructions on "How to use Blogger."  Have fun choosing your font, design and colours.

Key your first blog post.  Introduce yourself, city/town you would like to complete your field placement in, area of law you prefer, how easy/difficult it was to set up your blog. Lastly, please send your blog link to me.  I shall post the link on this blog site.

I look forward to reading your blogs.  Happy Blogging!
